Setting boundaries for notifications is crucial for maintaining productivity and mental well-being. As I’ve grown my client base, I’ve learned the importance of knowing when to pay attention to notifications and when to ignore them. This balance is key for staying focused and creating a healthy work-life balance.

I have five key boundaries that I like to observe daily:

Take regular breaks: Screentime can be draining and create fatigue. Get up and look outside, go for a walk, and get some sun.

Keep your personal and professional accounts separate: This helps you maintain a professional image with your clients and maintains your privacy.

Establish specific working hours: In the digital world, it is easy to fall into a 24/7 trap. This makes setting yourself time frames an essential part of juggling accounts.

Ignore the trolls: People will say negative things online all the time, and on many occasions, when you click through, they’ll be ghost pages with no other content on them. Whilst some situations will call for a professional and constructive response, sometimes you need to hide the comment and address the comments privately.

Share the load: For any client accounts, ensure they are connected to their social media channels and know how to check messages and reply to comments, as it will be more appropriate for their response in many instances. Don’t bear the load alone. It’s okay to delegate some aspects of the tasks to others.

If you can incorporate these boundaries into your daily work routine, you will find managing social media much easier to stay on top of.
