Creative block and not feeling inspired, is the worst feeling in the world for someone wanting to work on a project. It could be drawing, painting, writers block. No matter the type, they’re all so frustrating to feel.
When these times strike, this is when you need to pull out your list of ways to get the inspiration and ideas flowing again. People feel this way all the time, so one way is to just pinterest your initial thoughts. If you have a vague idea of what you want to do but stuck there, do a search and see what other people have done. Looking at other similar things can stimulate the creative part of your brain.
Pending the time of day you can also go for a walk to clear your head. All it takes is 3-5 minutes to get your body moving and the endorphins flowing. Or put on your headphones and listen to the music that makes you feel excited and happy. Shifting yourself into a different environment and looking at new things can give you a fresh look at what you’re trying to do.
It can be safe to say that whatever you’re looking at trying to work on, there will be limitless examples out there for you to find. Think about what is in your local area, go to the local library, find exhibitions, museums, and local small galleries or art schools. If you’re not in a position to go somewhere online has bountiful options. YouTube and online streaming services have documentaries or even movies. Learning and enjoying from these avenues can open your mind up to so many new possibilities.
Move away from what you’re working on if you can’t break through the block. Going for a walk and looking at the trees, the flowers, how the roots of the trees span across the ground.
If you’re comfortable indoors make a cup of tea and listen to music, stretch, do some at home yoga. The pause and re-focus onto a completely contrasting activity to what you’re working on can allow your subconscious to release fresh ideas.
Talking to different people about where you’re stuck, and engaging in your friendships can help maintain your happiness, feeling good and keeps your creativity flowing. Surrounding yourself with creative people can inspire the energy around you. Bringing your ideas to life through talking about them can often help you find the answers you’re looking for when you get fresh and alternative perspectives.
If you’re still finding yourself stuck, try a completely different form of creativity. Use a new technique, or a new medium. Experiment and try something you’ve never done before. Talk to people in your network about ways they do things, and learn a new technique. Sometimes, just taking a step to the left or right from what you’re doing can help you see everything in a whole new way.
Constantly change what you do, while working on what you love. This is how you can keep your mind fresh and the thoughts flowing.
