Life is busy, there are constant expectations on us with somewhere to be and something to do. Stop and think about those places you have to go, like to work or to visit friends and family. Think about the time it takes to get to those places and how do you get there. Life is busy and maybe you’re spending some time doing chores like cooking, or cleaning or going for a walk. These are all ideal times to put the headphones in and listen.
My commute to work is around 40mins to an hour depending on traffic, my partner takes the train for roughly the same time. To visit my familly up the coast it is around a 2.5 hour drive.
On that commute, what do you do? I usually have the radio on, or a spotify playlist, and I find this is prime time for listening to something to inspire growth.
There are so many different podcasts out there that you can really find anything you’re interested in. One of my personal favourites is called “The One You Feed”. It is based on the parable about two wolves and the one that wins is the one that you feed. The host interviews a range of different people on all different well being topics and they are very inspiring.
People want to know more and are constantly looking for ways to grow, and with this there are people who are offering their knowledge and want to give that insight to the broader community. With smart phones and apps and spotify, being able to understand one’s and grow beyond the restrictions of our mind, is often held in the palm of our hands.
All you have to do, is search key words that interest you and it will return a multitude of options, and its just a matter of taking time to find the one that resonates with you, and using what I call “white space” to listen to them. Those times in transit or doing chores can become uplifting and productive pieces of time.
Next time you have some spare time, or you’re travelling to work, take a moment to look after yourself and find one or more podcasts that you are interested in and allow yourself to tune out to the hustle and bustle of life and just listen and focus on you, giving your mind a chance to be inspired and bring some extra moments of happiness into your daily routines.
